About Us

HandsOn Mid-Willamette Valley is the volunteer action center for Marion, Polk, and Yamhill Counties, providing support and resources for the mobilization of volunteers so that all individuals in our community have the opportunity to share their time and talents.  HandsOn partners with over 150 local community agencies to provide an online database of more than 300 unique volunteer opportunities and a regular offering of volunteer projects.  HandsOn provides services that help volunteers discover their passion for giving back, prepare agencies to recruit, train, and retain volunteers, and businesses to engage their employees in mutually beneficial community involvement.  HandsOn is an initiative of the United Way of the Mid-Willamette Valley

Mission
HandsOn mobilizes individual and collective powers to create positive change in our community.

History
HandsOn, previously the Volunteer and Mentor Center of the Mid-Willamette Valley, was launched in October 2007 as an online volunteer database and resource for local volunteers at GiveBackToday.org.  The Center was the product of an Action Team consisting of individuals representing a number of community groups including: Marion County Children & Families Commission, Marion County Board of Commissioners, Oregon Department of Human Services, Withnell Auto Group, Willamette ESD, NO Meth Not In My Neighborhood, Willamette University, and various local non-profit agencies.

The original intent for the Center was to be solely an online service for residents of Marion, Polk, and Yamhill County.  Based on demands and interest, the Center quickly grew to adopt a number of other services including managed projects, days of services, and training and consultation.  Based on the expanded role of the Center, the decision was made to align with the national network of volunteer action centers - the HandsOn Network.  In May 2009, the Center re-launched as HandsOn Mid-Willamette Valley.  The HandsOn Network, is made up of 370 affiliate Action Centers that serve 83% of the American population.
